Tuesday Feb 26 Persuasive Essay

Good Morning,

As 7th graders you have a state writing test next Tuesday. I offered to help Ms. Roberts in preparing you. Today we will begin working on our Persuasive Essay.

You will persuade your reader to agree with you on the following topic: If you could time travel to any civilization we've studied which would you choose and why? Provide specific examples of amenities in each.
First we'll use the Pro/Con sheet.
The civilizations we've studied:
  1. Rome
  2. Byzantine Empire
  3. Sub-Saharan Africa
  4. Aztecs
  5. Maya
  6. Inca
  7. Medieval China
  8. Medieval Japan
  9. We are now learning about Medieval Europe (Dark Ages)

In our path to understanding Medieval Europe we need to understand the connection between the rulers.
In your IN please answer the following questions:
  1. How did Charlemagne and the Pope cooperate with each other?
  2. How did Charlemagne try to reform the Church in his empire?
  3. How did Charlemagne's coronation contribute to the split between the Christian churches?
  4. What rights did Pope Gregory VII claim as pope?
  5. Why was the power to choose bishops an important factor in the conflict between the pope and the emperor?
  6. Using the sequence of events graphic organizer answer: What sequence of events led to Henry IV forcing the Pope out of office?
